Nine suspects in major money laundering investigation: here’s what we know about them

With the release of Frits van Eerd and the 57-year-old woman from Gasteren, eight of the nine arrested suspects have been released again. Only the 58-year-old main suspect from the municipality of Aa and Hunze is still detained. The eight others remain suspects. An overview of what we know so far about these nine people involved in the major money laundering investigation.

Two of the nine suspects are from Brabant. It concerns Jumbo CEO Frits van Eerd, who has been free again since Sunday, and a 68-year-old man from Rosmalen. Nothing further is known about the man from Rosmalen.

With Jumbo Supermarkets, Van Eerd is a major sponsor within the car and motorsport world. For years he has been a sponsor of, for example, Max Verstappen, Jeffrey Herlings and various motor and car racing teams. In addition, Van Eerd also drove in, for example, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, under the name of Racing Team Netherlands. Jumbo has participated in the Dakar Rally for many years and the logo of the supermarket chain is visible as a sponsor in many motorsport classes and motorsports.

Main suspect Theo van E.
The main suspect in the money laundering investigation is a 58-year-old man from Gasteren in the Drenthe municipality of Aa en Hunze. He’s the only one still stuck. According to RTV Drenthe it is about Theo E., a well-known in the motocross world. He was team leader of motocross team TvE MX for many years. Several motocross racers have lived in his house for a while.

Theo E. and Frits van Eerd would know each other from the motocross world. Jumbo sponsored the team where E. was team leader for a while. Report sources to the Newspaper of the North that E. frequently supplied engines to Frits van Eerd for the large collection that the Jumbo CEO had. Over the years, Theo E. has been associated with money laundering, sham loans, tax fraud and other dubious cases in the car trade.

Other suspects
So far, nothing is known about the other suspects from Drenthe. Just like Theo E., two of them come from Gasteren, these are women aged 48 and 57. The other four suspects are all from Assen. It concerns two women (46 and 50) and two men (33).
