Porin Ässät teased its social media followers on Thursday morning by announcing that it would publish a video with the title “just an ordinary video”. However, it was predictable that the team would tell juicy news between the lines.

However, many could not wait for what was revealed in the video. The Swedish goalkeeper was one of the team’s big successes this season Niklas Rubin will continue in Pori next season as well.

In the current ice hockey season, Rubin has shown himself to be a star goalkeeper in the SM League, so he would have had enough interest from outside Finland as well. Even though the people of Pori were often frustrated by their team’s weak mood in the fall, the finger of blame has almost never been aimed at Rubin.

Rubin’s save percentage of 92.2 is currently the fifth highest in the league. The average number of goals conceded is 2.15 and there have been four clean sheets so far. To top it all off, Rubin also has one scored goal in his account, which was created through the assistance of Turku Palloseura players in December.

Porin Ässät survived the difficulties of the fall and has managed to turn its course towards the playoff spring. Now Karri Kiven the coached group can be found in the middle of the regular season, i.e. in the playoff spot. In Pori, we are confident that Rubin’s extension is one sign that the club is finally moving in the right direction.

– His desire to win and his competitive personality have impressed our entire club community. The extension contract is a significant part of building the future and I think the contract shows that we are going in the right direction as a club, Ässie’s sports director Janne Vuorinen tells in the bulletin.
