Stefan Kraft is a world record holder in the men’s ski flying. So far, Silje Opseth has held the record for women. That has come to an end.

The Slovenian ski jumper Nika Prevc wrote ski flight history. On Friday, the 19-year-old set up a new world record on the ski jump in Vikersund in Norwegian. At 236 meters, she flew further than the previous record holder Silje Opseth from Norway, which had reached 230.5 meters in the previous year. Opseth was even sailed to 236.5 meters, but could not stand the jump.

Prevc, who had already secured the overall victory in the World Cup on Thursday, is in an impressive form. The Slovenin won the last seven World Cups and won gold in both individual competitions at the World Cup in Trondheim.

Ski flying in Vikersund is part of the RAW-Air tour. The ski jump is known for its record flights: her brother Peter Prevc jumped at 250 meters here in 2015, and Stefan Kraft’s current world record from Austria (253.5 meters) was also set up in Vikersund.

Ryōyū Kobayashi from Japan made the longest jump from a ski jacker in April 2024 on a temporary hill in Iceland. At 291 meters, he exceeded all previous expanses, but the World Ski Association did not recognize the jump due to the sponsorship event as an official world record.

The women’s ski flying is still relatively new. There have been official competitions only since 2023. The German record is 198.5 meters and was set up by Katharina Schmid. Selina Friday came to 198 meters on Friday in training.
