Nieuwpoort is the only coastal city that remains the owner of its fish market. According to Promovis Nieuwpoort, it remains an important economic and tourist asset.
“The fish market is a catalyst for everything that happens in Nieuwpoort in terms of tourism and the local economy. There is a great collaboration between the local auction, fishermen and the fish trade,” it says.
Despite the difficult situation in which the sector finds itself, there is still future-oriented thinking. A new fishing vessel was recently baptized and another new vessel will follow within a few weeks.
