Jule Niemeier started her first tennis tournament after reaching the quarter-finals of Wimbledon with a win.
The 22-year-old prevailed at the WTA clay court tournament in Lausanne against the Swiss Ylena In-Albon after 2:40 hours 7: 5, 6: 7 (3: 7), 6: 3 and made it into the round of 16. There, the Dortmund player meets a qualifier or the Russian Varvara Gratschewa.
Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria, who defeated Niemeier in the quarterfinals of the classic grass lawn in London, is also in Lausanne. She starts off against a qualifier.
