Nicole Kumpis is President of Eintracht Braunschweig, NDR-Sport – NDR – Regional

Kumpis received 472 of the 890 votes cast digitally, Ditzinger received 411. There were seven abstentions. For the first time in the almost 127-year history of Eintracht, the members had a correct choice between two candidates. The previous incumbent Christoph Bratmann was surprisingly not re-elected in mid-Movember. Above all, the professional football fan camp had spoken out against the 52-year-old.

Ex-professional Kessel in the Bureau

The board member of the German Red Cross Braunschweig-Salzgitter has been the club’s vice president for the past three months and will head the Eintracht Braunschweig Foundation until 2021.

New in the BTSV leadership as vice presidents are Uwe Fritsch, Bettina Heinicke (departments) and ex-professional Benjamin Kessel (soccer). Rainer Cech (Finance) was re-elected.

Kumpis is currently the only female president of a professional club

The Kumpis election is another signal for professional football. In January, Donata Hopfen took over as CEO of the German Football League. It was only last Friday that sports scientist Silke Sinning prevailed against Rainer Koch, who had been pulling the strings for many years, in the presidential elections of the German Football Association. With Kumpis, one of 56 clubs in the three German professional leagues has now received a female president.

Of course, this is nothing new: in 1986, Gisela Schwerdt took over the position at Armina Bielefeld for a few months. From 1988 to 1992, Liselotte Knecht was President of 1860 Munich.
