Nico Elvedi (26) has extended his originally expiring contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach following the transfer rumors in the summer. In recent months there has been less of an extension and more of an early farewell. In July, Virkus confirmed the central defender’s desire to change: Elvedi said “that he wants to do something new. We understand that. We want to provide clarity as quickly as possible.”

The 48-time Swiss international was primarily associated with Wolverhampton Wanderers. According to reports, Elvedi negotiated with the Premier League club during the transfer phase. AS Roma and AS Monaco were also considered interested parties.
After a transfer failed, Elvedi was open to an extension again: “It was never the case that I wanted to leave here at any price. On the contrary, I have been here for eight years (came from FC Zurich in 2015 for 4 million euros; editor) and I really appreciate the club and all the people here.”
