After Ajax Amsterdam, VfB Stuttgart is also investigating the role of its former sports director Sven Mislintat in Borna Sosa’s move. Apparently the Bundesliga club is also examining previous transfers.

Also the VfB Stuttgart is now investigating the business practices of his former sports director Sven Mislintat when it comes to player changes. It will be about the transfer of Croatian international Borna Sosa in the summer to Mislintat’s new employer Ajax Amsterdam, but also about previous changes.

More possible Conflict of interest with Sosa change

“VfB Stuttgart is examining the affected transfer activities due to the circumstances,” the Bundesliga club announced on Thursday. “Bild” and “Kicker” initially reported. Mislintat is at risk of trouble at Ajax because of a possible conflict of interestafter the Left-back Sosa for a transfer fee of between eight and ten million euros moved from Stuttgart to Amsterdam. The background is Mislintat’s participation in the football data analysis company Matchmetrics. The player consulting agency AKA Global GmbH, which orchestrated the change, has also been involved in this company since the summer.

Mislintat at Ajax under pressure

Mislintat has been Ajax’s technical director since the spring. He had previously worked for VfB for around three years. During this time, Sosa also played for VfB. When he moved to Amsterdam, Mislintat’s stake in Matchmetrics was the subject of contract discussions. A contractual agreement was also made about this. According to Ajax’s statement, Mislintat has assured the club that it will fully cooperate in clarifying the events, including passing on all relevant documents. VfB is apparently not only examining the Sosa case, but also previous transfers from the time when Mislintat still worked for the Swabians. In Stuttgart he was sports director from May 2019 to November 2022.
