There is no question: hacken gates will be the megatrend for gate of the month in 2025. An incredible 140,000 football fans voted for Nick Woltemade’s artificial shot, making it the fourth such goal this year to be Goal of the Month. In second place was Harry Kane’s great turn-shot goal with around 115,000 votes. Third place was Nicole Ayomi with her left-footed shot, which spiraled so wonderfully into the left corner of the goal (around 66,000 votes).
It’s hard to believe, but in the almost 55-year history of Goal of the Month there has only been one award for a goal from the goal Premier League. Emre Can got it in May 2017 in the jersey of Liverpool FC for his side kick against Watford.
Over 50 Germans played in England over the years and some of them were among the best footballers of their time. From Klinsmann and Hamann to Riedle, Ballack, Gündogan, Hitzlsperger, Podolski or Özil – none of these big names won the sports show’s traditional gold medal with one of their goals on the island.
The 47th Hackentor at TdM
Woltemade by Newcastle United is now the second player overall to achieve this. His beautiful goal obviously enchanted Sportschau viewers and users so much that they didn’t care where it was scored. And the young national player is actually doing a great job. The pass comes from the right, from teammate Lewis Miley. Woltemade is centrally positioned in front of the goal at the penalty spot and is defended closely. But at Woltemade things will just work out in 2025. In his best striker style, he stands open to the passer, lets the ball come and then elegantly pushes it with the heel of his right foot between both central defenders and into the net at the bottom left.
This is the 47th goal with the heel in the Goal of the Month. If things continue like this, there will probably be many more.
“The fans love him”
Waltemade, who moved from Stuttgart to Newcastle for an incredible 90 million euros before the season, is the only German professional footballer on the island for whom things are going really well in the 25/26 season. While Florian Wirtz has to endure a lot of criticism and Kai Havertz is plagued by bad luck with injuries, Woltemade is praised to the skies for his performances. “He has brought so much new things to the team and will only get better. The fans love him”says Newcastle legend Alan Shearer enthusiastically. The election for the TdM October impressively shows that it’s not just the Newcastle fans who love him.
