Nick Woltemade apparently wants to switch to FC Bayern. Stuttgart would lose a top performer. But the real loser would be different.

They are furious weeks for Nick Woltemade: It was only at the end of May that the striker won the DFB Cup in the VfB Stuttgart jersey, a few days later he debuted as part of the Nations Four of the Nations League for the A-National team and is now using the DFB selection in the final of the U21 European Championship.

As if that weren’t enough hustle and bustle, reports came up on Thursday that the 23-year-old had agreed on a change with FC Bayern. As the TV broadcaster Sky reports, Woltemade should probably sign a contract with the German record champions by 2030. The Munich team would now have to take negotiations with VfB. According to the “Bild” newspaper, a possible transfer should amount to up to 60 million euros.

If the deal actually comes about, it should have advantages for both sides: FC Bayern gets an emerging German talent with the potential of a great future with Woltemade. The proud club could possibly make up for the shame, which was accompanied by the unsuccessful advertising around Florian Wirtz. Stuttgart on the other hand would lose a top performer, but would cut in an impressive pain and suffering, which should certainly be sufficient for an adequate replacement.

In view of the lavish transfer fee, the deal would also have a big loser: SV Werder Bremen. At the club from the Weser Woltemade went through the entire youth department, also celebrating his professional debut there. He ran for the Bremeners until the summer of last year.

But under coach Ole Werner Woltemade could not develop completely. He got regular time, but last season he only played a single game over 90 minutes for the Bremen. He was also pushed back and forth several times. Sometimes he ran up as a center forward, partly as a hanging tip, partly even as an offensive midfielder.

The result: Woltemade flee after the end of his contract and switched to VfB free of charge. Just a year later, he could now bring the Swabian 60 million euros.

It is money that Werder Bremen could have used well. After all, after its relegation 2021 and the Bundesliga return, the club is not yet financially betting on roses a year later. Nevertheless, in the future you want to be constantly in the struggle for international places. Now the Bremeners have to watch a main competitor in exactly this fight in a lavish transfer for Woltemade.

In fact, the lack of promoting young talent should also have been one of the main reasons why the paths of Bremen and coach Ole Werner separated a few weeks ago. In view of the possible transfer from Woltemade to FC Bayern, those responsible in Bremen should be confirmed in their course. With Horst Steffen, a new trainer who is known for his outstanding youth work was hired.

For the Bremen fans, the obligation should also be the hope that young talents will not only bring in sporting success, but also high transfer fees in the future-and a second case like that of Nick Woltemade can be avoided.
