Leon Draisaitl has once again proven his enormous value to the Edmonton Oilers. Germany’s top ice hockey star scored the winning goal after 18 seconds in overtime in the 3-2 win against the San Jose Sharks and is number one in the NHL professional league with 24 goals this season.
“You have to find a way to win every type of hockey game in this league, and the last two nights we definitely won them the same way. You don’t want to do that every night, but sometimes you need it.”said Draisaitl (29), who with Edmonton had also won 3-2 after overtime against the Boston Bruins in the previous game.
Draisaitl surpasses McDavid
On Saturday, with his 17th goal in overtime, the Cologne player surpassed his teammate Connor McDavid, with whom he previously shared this record at the former club of NHL icon Wayne Gretzky. The Draisaitl/McDavid duo have now scored the winning goal for Edmonton a total of 99 times. McDavid prepared Draisaitl’s goal at Rogers Place as well as the other goals for the runner-up, who is in fifth place in the Western Conference.
Stützle wins with Ottawa
Nico Sturm remained without a scorer for the Sharks, who lost for the fourth time in a row. Tim Stützle also celebrated a late victory with the Ottawa Senators. The center scored the winning goal in Canada’s 5-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks. National player John-Jason Peterka scored the goal for the Buffalo Sabers in their 3-1 defeat in Boston.
Moritz Seider recorded an assist in the Detroit Red Wings’ 1:5 defeat at the Montreal Canadiens. Lukas Reichel lost 4:6 to the Calgary Flames with the Chicago Blackhawks, bottom of the West. Goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer and Seattle Kraken conceded a 2:6 defeat to former champions Vegas Golden Knights.
