The Seattle Seahawks have strengthened themselves in the fight for the NFC West crown with a new wide receiver. He comes from the New Orleans Saints and meets an old colleague from the NFL in Seattle.

Just a few hours before the NFL trade deadline, the Seahawks secured the services of wide receiver Rashid Shaheed. For the deep threat, Seattle is sending a fourth- and sixth-round pick to New Orleans.

Shaheed has played there since he was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022. In addition to his role as a receiver, he was also used as a returner. He had his best season to date in 2023, when he was able to collect 719 receiving yards and another 723 yards on punt returns or kickoff returns.

So far this season he has 499 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Shaheed primarily functions as a wideout, where he played 71 percent of his snaps. His average target depth is over eleven yards, which makes his role as a deep threat even clearer.

NFL: Addition to Smith-Njigba

And in this role he will now complement Seahawks star Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is also primarily used as a wideout. It’s a good thing that quarterback Sam Darnold has played very safe deep ball so far this season.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has already collected 948 receiving yards, which currently leads the NFL. JSN had a wide-eyed reaction to X immediately after trading for Shaheed.

He received a quick response from Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed’s teammate until the evening, who assured that the Seahawks had signed “a great guy.”

This should now help to win the highly competitive NFC West. In addition to the Seahawks, the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers have also collected six wins there so far.
