The New York Jets separate from its 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This was announced by the franchise on Thursday.
“Last week we met Aaron and told him that we wanted to take a different direction in the quarterback position”explained coach Aaron Glenn and Manager Darren Mougey in the explanation published by the franchise.
The conversation was important to have clarity. Rodgers, who turned 41 in December, came to the jets in April 2023. He had previously played for Green Bay Packers for over a decade and a half and the team led to the Super Bowl win in 2010. In the past season, he had returned after an Achilles tendon tear and had played 17 games. But even with the Star Quarterback, the team from New York did not even make it into the playoffs.
In the meantime, the jets have been waiting for a final round for 14 years – no other team of the four large US sports leagues is going through a longer dry spell. Most recently, the jets had introduced their former player Glenn as the new head coach.
