The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) issues code orange for the night from Sunday to Monday in almost the entire country. Slippery conditions are expected due to icy conditions, with a “high risk of accidents due to slippery bridges, roads, cycle paths and footpaths”. The orange code does not apply only in South Holland (code yellow) and Zeeland (no weather warning).

“The slipperiness will often be difficult to see, which makes it treacherous for road users,” writes the KNMI. During the Monday morning rush hour, code orange is still in force only in the northeast of the country. “Elsewhere the slipperiness disappears during the night.”

On Sunday, code yellow still applies in almost the entire country – with the exception of Zeeland – for “local slippery conditions due to snow residues or freezing of wet roads”. In most Dutch provinces the temperature dropped below zero on Sunday.
