Liverpool are hot on the heels of leaders Manchester City in the English Premier League. Six days after winning the League Cup, coach Jürgen Klopp’s team beat West Ham United 1-0 (1-0) on Saturday. After their seventh league success and eleventh competitive win in a row, the Reds are only three points behind defending champions Man City in second place in the table and thus have a chance of winning the championship.
The Senegalese Sadio Mané scored the only goal of the game in the 27th minute. However, there were plenty of opportunities. In a packed Anfield stadium, both teams were aggressive from the start and offered the crowd an entertaining game. However, Liverpool got more out of the game overall and deservedly left the pitch as winners.
On Sunday, Jürgen Klopp, who wants to stop coaching at Anfield in 2024, won the League Cup for the first time with Liverpool (11:10 on penalties against Chelsea). The team is still in the running in three other competitions. On Tuesday, Liverpool will play the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Inter Milan (first leg 2-0).
