Alex Michelsen had already secured access to the semi-final of the Next Gen Finals in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), but the American needed only 25 minutes to win the third match of the group against the Chinese Shang, who withdrew after conceding a clear 4-1 in the first set (it was 1-1 in the second set). The future champion born in 2005 ends the season bitterly, with the Finals that brought three defeats in three matches. For Michelsen only two sets lost in three matches and an important calling card in view of the semi-final (the American dominated Group B).

THE FRENCH

Luca van Assche also passes with Michelsen, who boasts greater experience at this level compared to the 19-year-old American Nishesh Basavareddy. The number 138 in the ranking starts very strong and takes home the first set thanks to a dominated tie-break (7-2). But van Assche, who has already played several Slam tournaments and matches of a certain level, knows how to handle the pressure and manages to take control of the match. The second set belongs to the Frenchman, who scores set point in the fifth (he had wasted three in the sixth game) and goes to the tie-break, also canceling an opportunity for Basavareddy to go 2-0. In the last two sets, a break per set was enough for van Assche, who prevailed 3-4 (2), 4-3 (7), 4-2 4-2 in two hours and three minutes, earning access to the semi-final from second in Group B.
