The Everton FC has parted ways with team manager Sean Dyche with immediate effect, just hours before kick-off of a cup game.

In the third round game of the FA Cups against the third division team Peterborough United On Thursday evening, Everton then struggled to a 2-0 win, the second goal only coming in the eighth minute of added time. Leighton Baines, currently head coach of the U18s, and captain Seamus Coleman took care of the team on an interim basis.

It was the second coaching dismissal in the Premier League within 24 hours after West Ham United separated from Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui.

Only one win from eleven games

Everton, currently in 16th place in the Premier League, has only won one of their last eleven league games; last Saturday the “Toffees” lost 1-0 AFC Bournemouth.

According to English media reports, Dyche himself subsequently contacted emissaries from the Friedkin Group, Everton’s American owners, and suggested they consider options for the post of team manager.

Southgate, Moyes – or Mourinho as successor?

The search for a successor is already underway, the club said in a statement after the separation from Dyche. Former national coach Gareth Southgate, ex-Everton team manager David Moyes and Jose Mourinho were mentioned as possible candidates in the English press.
