In the future, on Facebook and Instagram, you can make claims about “mental illness or abnormality when they are based on gender or sexual orientation, when it is related to political and religious discussion about transgenderism and homosexuality”.

Users are therefore allowed to write that, for example, gays and transgender people are mentally ill, the first to write about the rule changes Wired interprets word forms.

Social media company Meta changed its rules on hateful behavior on Tuesday while also announcing that it was ditching its fact-checking team. The rules define what kind of messages can be sent on Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

Among other things, the section that prohibits referring to women as household items or property has been removed from the rules.

The section that forbids referring to transgender people with the pronoun “it” (in English “it”) has also been removed from the rules.

The current and previous versions of the Hateful Conduct Policy are available to read On the pages of Meta.

Trump boasts

– It’s not right that things can be said on television or in congress, but not on our platforms, Meta’s new social relations director Joel Kaplan justifies the loosening of the rules Meta’s blog.

– We are waiving several restrictions related to topics such as immigration, gender identity and gender, which are the subject of constant political discussion and debate, Kaplan writes.

According to the US media, organizations representing minorities have sharply criticized the rule changes.

Despite the relaxations, the rules say that Meta will remove, for example, “derogatory speech” and “harmful stereotypes”.

Separately prohibited things include “dehumanizing speech”, such as comparing groups of people to cockroaches or viruses.

Abandoning fact-checking and changing the rules on hate speech have been seen in the US media as concessions to the incoming Donald Trump administration.

The future president of the United States Trump praised the changes made by Meta on Tuesday, CNN tells. Trump called Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s performance “convincing.”
