New position for Erik ten Hag. The 55-year-old will move to FC Twente Enschede on February 1st and will then take over as technical director from next season. He has worked for the Eredivisie club in the past as an assistant coach for the professionals, U17 coach and, during his playing days, as a player. He was most recently in the coaching bench at Bayer Leverkusen, but was fired after just three games at the beginning of September.
The Dutchman has a contract with FC Twente until 2028. He succeeds Jan Streuer, who recently indicated that he would resign after this season. Ten Hag is back where his professional career once began. “I think it’s very nice and special to return to FC Twente, where I came to the Het Diekman stadium as a fan as a child. This is where my football and coaching career began. With my experience in the areas of youth development, team building and top-class sports culture, I would like to work with the supervisory board, management and employees to strengthen the technical foundations of FC Twente so that the club can sustainably exploit its potential as a regional flagship,” said ten Hag.
Managing director Dominique Scholten said: “We are very pleased to welcome Erik ten Hag to FC Twente. Erik has an incredible track record in football and his connection to FC Twente has always remained very strong. At FC Twente he was a youth coach, training director and assistant coach and then head coach and technical manager at renowned clubs at home and abroad. We have been in regular contact recently and from the conversations it quickly became clear that he has great ambitions to lead FC “These ambitions fit in with the course we recently presented. We are raising the bar and further professionalizing the football organization.” The club is currently in sixth place in the Eredivisie.
