Finland’s head coach Teemu Pasanen tells what he knows about Iivo Niskanes, who unexpectedly retired.

Iivo Niskanen withdrew just a moment before the Ruka World Cup freestyle 20 km co-start race on Sunday.

– He was exercising and testing his skis until I got a message that Iivo didn’t feel like he was in the best shape. Then he decided not to start, commented the head coach of the Finnish team Teemu Pasanen.

Is it about getting sick?

– It isn’t. He was actually exercising normally, but he just wasn’t in the best shape, Pasanen answered.

The head coach announced that the Kuopio native will compete in the World Cup in Trondheim next weekend.

– Isn’t Niskanen able to get there, so to speak, on the screens of last season.

In Norway, the traditional sprint, combined race and freestyle with an intermediate start are contested.

On Friday, Niskanen was in the traditional top ten of the Fifth Ruka World Cup. He was not selected for Saturday’s traditional sprint.
