After setbacks during cancer treatment, there is positive news for Delani Diekmeier for the first time. A new therapy option brings new confidence to the family.
Delani Diekmeier is about to try a new treatment. The 14-year-old daughter of former professional footballer Dennis Diekmeier is hospitalized in Würzburg in mid-December – her family is hopeful.
“Once again the chances weren’t good, but Delani is and remains a miracle and finally there was good news,” wrote mother Dana Diekmeier on Instagram on Thursday. “Today is the best day this year.”
Delani had a tumor on her adrenal gland discovered in January. The tumor was removed, but a short time later doctors found metastases in both lungs.
Ex-HSV professional Dennis Diekmeier recently told the German Press Agency how difficult the past few months have been for the family. “The first chemotherapy didn’t work, the second didn’t work either, the first immunotherapy didn’t work – the horror, these feelings can’t be described,” he said. In the meantime, Delani was classified as a palliative patient.
A new approach from nuclear medicine is now being used. This is a treatment with a radioactive agent that is specifically absorbed by tumor cells. Dana Diekmeier wrote: “She had to shine in the truest sense of the word – and that’s exactly what she did. She shines.”
