New documentary “Joni Mitchell – Hippie Folk Goddess”

The Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell wrote numerous hits and shaped the zeitgeist of the late 1960s and early 1970s with her songs like no other singer before she emancipated herself as an artist with jazz influences.

That Mitchell knew how to go her own way and at the same time knew what the audience was hoping to hear was vividly demonstrated by her records in the 80s, which skilfully combined influences from pop and rock.

But why did Joni Mitchell become the most influential musician of her generation? Because she persevered and never let herself be bent? A new documentary, which arte is showing on August 26th, follows the career of the music poet and pays tribute to the (timeless) quality of her lyrics and her unmistakable guitar style. At the same time, it shows extraordinary insights behind the scenes and into Mitchell’s well-kept private life.

There will also be “Both Sides Now – Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970” as part of a Joni Mitchell themed night. A spectacular performance that shows how the singer knows how to assert herself with her intimate songs striving for harmony in front of a gigantic audience furious due to numerous restrictions and how she also keeps a cool head when suddenly a fan appears on stage.
