Alex van Halen is working on a new anthology with the working title “Van Halen” – and has announced that he will be opening a comprehensive “family archive” of the Van Halens for the first time. “VAN HALEN is one of the greatest American stories,” says Alex Van Halen.

A press release from Genesis Publications states: “The years 1978 to 1984 are explored through correspondence, tour memorabilia, album artwork, press materials, music equipment, unpublished photos and much more – tracing the brothers’ journey from their childhood through the formation of the band to their debut and their meteoric rise.”

Unpublished material and archive access

The statement continued: “With a dynamic mix of iconic photographs and rare, previously unpublished images, as well as exclusive access to its private archives, VAN HALEN offers a personal tour of the band’s legendary career.”

A publication date for the book is still pending. However, fans can on the anthology website Register to be notified of new information.

Alex van Halen misses his brother

Van Halen previously published the autobiographical book “Brothers,” in which he describes his life and career with his late brother and bandmate Eddie Van Halen. The autobiography, published in 2024, is not only a declaration of love to his brother, but also to their music together.

“This is my tribute to my brother, my way of saying goodbye,” Van Halen wrote in the book. “Ed, I love you and I miss you. When I see you again, I’m going to kick your ass!” Eddie Van Halen died of cancer in 2020.

Alex van Halen is 72 years old today. With the death of his brother, Van Halen, of which he was the drummer, dissolved. To this day he has not pursued any solo projects and has so far rejected offers from other bands.

The last album by the two brothers was released in 2012 with “A Different Kind of Truth”. The band’s last tour (through North America) took place in 2015 – and the last concert was finally at the Hollywood Bowl.
