Bad news for Joop van den Ende: the nerves in his legs are dying. He can currently only move with a walking stick. “That’s because I have neuropathy.”
Joop van den Ende is a multi-billionaire, but unfortunately health cannot be bought. The 83-year-old TV and theater tycoon is physically deteriorating somewhat. “I think my health is good. For someone of 83 years old, I am very energetic. But I am finding it increasingly difficult to walk,” he says in an interview with the newspaper. Story.
Neuropathy
Joop has been walking around with a walking stick for some time now. “That’s because I have neuropathy in my legs. This means that the nerves in my legs die and my walking becomes increasingly unstable. That is a negative point. But yes, at my age, ailments are part of life.”
The end is approaching, he realizes. “I still have plans for the next ten to fifteen years, even though I know I won’t achieve them. However, that is my way of burying my head in the sand. I am still working hard, about five hours a day, about three to four days a week.”
New hip
How is his wife Janine van den Ende doing? She says: “We’ve had a bad year with our legs. Eleven weeks ago I got a new hip. But I have little patience, and I’m disappointed that I’m still in pain.”
“That is not new to me, I also got a new hip four years ago. But Joop and I cherish life and the time we still have together. Every day is one.”
