“If things had gone wrong, I think we would all have been devastated here,” says one of the local residents. “Just like in Enschede.”
Hotel
Another resident happened to go to a hotel today. “I thought, I wish I had booked my hotel yesterday. A day earlier, then I wouldn’t have had to experience it.”
More than twenty homes were evacuated. The residents were welcomed in a café-restaurant, where they were given coffee and bitterballen.
Bowl of water
“We have been treated fantastically,” says the first local resident. “And there was a bowl of water for the dogs.”
The police have arrested a 43-year-old man. According to local residents, fireworks have been found in his home before, although the police do not want to confirm or deny this.
