The Boston Celtics took the lead again in the final series for the title in the North American basketball professional league NBA against the Golden State Warriors thanks to a strong performance.

In the first home game after two games in San Francisco, the Celtics around national basketball player Daniel Theis scored a 116:100 (68:56) on Wednesday evening (06/08/2022). The Celtics now lead 2-1 in the best-of-seven series and need two more victories to reach their 18th championship in history. This would put Boston on its own again, ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers, who also currently have 17 titles.

passed the phase of weakness

As in the first two games, the Celtics allowed themselves a long phase of weakness in the third quarter and fell behind after an 18-point lead. But in front of their own spectators, the team regained the lead before the end of the period and went into the final quarter with four points more. Frenetically celebrated for strong defensive work, the hosts pulled away again and secured the win.

Best Pitcher: Stephen Curry

The best pitcher of the game was Warriors star Stephen Curry with 31 points. Jaylen Brown recorded 27 points for the Celtics, Jayson Tatum 26 and Marcus Smart 24. In contrast to the first two matches of the final series, Theis was not used. Celtics coach Ime Udoka only sent eight different professionals onto the floor two minutes before the end, but in the end he also did without Lower Saxony, who is only the second German after Dirk Nowitzki to win the NBA title.

“Good job done”

“They did a good job. They deserved the win”said Warriors coach Steve Kerr: “They put a lot of pressure on us and I felt like we were swimming against the tide for most of the evening.” Boston coach Ime Udoka identified his team’s physical advantages as key. “We want to try to impose our will and our greatness in this series”he said.

On Friday, the Celtics have home advantage again in game four, before the possibly decisive fifth game takes place again on Monday at the Warriors.

The Celtics have been waiting for their 18th championship since 2008. The Warriors are hoping for their seventh title in history and their first since 2018.
