Thanks to a strong team performance and led by Isabell Werth, the German dressage team shines in the Grand Prix of the Chio.
The thumb of Isabell Werth pointed upwards, in which Aachener Soers beamed the record Olympic champion and national coach Monica Theodorescu in dream weather. Wednesday had “not a good karma”, “from front to back, with thunderstorms and interruptions,” said Theodorescu. It looked very different on Thursday, also sporty, the German dressage team won the Chio Nations Prize.
“Yesterday we all not delivered as we imagined it,” said the happy value after its strong ride: “Today we all decided to make up for it and do it particularly well.” And that was really successful. ” After the sobering appearances of the German couples in the “small tour” the day before the mood turned.
Werth dances team to victory
Werth and her parade horse Wendy danced with a brilliant performance to victory in the first five-star exam of the Chio-and the team for highly superior triumph in front of the teams from Belgium and Sweden.
The day before, Germany’s dressage ladder had started the world festival of equestrian sport with the four-star grand prix, nobody could really convince on the square. With her young star Special Blend, Werth also only finished sixth.
Rothenberger failed at short notice
Another bad news was added to the weather caps: the German champion Sönke Rothenberger, actually the fourth rider in the team, had been at short notice with his top horse Fendi. So the result of each duo counted in the team classification. Without a string result, “nothing should happen,” warned Werth: “Only a look or jump to the side, and it happened.”
But Team Germany never needed a string result in the Grand Prix. Frederic Wandres with Bluetooth (3rd) and Katharina Hemmer with Denoix (5th) also consistently convinced in the dressage stadium and nourished their hopes for a nomination for the European Championships in Crozet in August.
On Saturday they want to convince on their way to the European Championship in the Grand Prix Special (9 a.m.).
