For the Danish international Rikke Madsen, there were double reason to be happy on Saturday. The striker of FC Everton and her team celebrated a 3-0 home win against Crystal Palace in the highest English league of women, the Super League-and her engagement.
Because with the final whistle of the duel, her long -time friend Martin Thomsen came to the field and made Madsen a marriage proposal. The 27-year-old and her kneeling partner showed a video on Instagram. Madsen seemed overjoyed, grinning Thomsen, nodding his head several times and fell into his arms. After Madsen got the ring on her finger, she presented it on her hip. Her teammates stood around them and cheered the moment.
A teammate even had the couple’s common child in her arms during the application. The couple became parents of a girl on October 22nd of last year. Madsen and Thomsen have been a couple for several years. On Instagram, the professional player published a picture of the two on vacation together in 2016. How long they are really together remained unclear.
Madsen moved to Everton in England last summer. Before that, she played at North Carolina Courage (USA), in Oslo (Norway), Melbourne (Australia) and Madrid (Spain). With FC Everton, after 17 match days she is in seventh place in the table. Next Sunday for the club against Manchester United’s women. So far, she has completed 33 games for the Danish national team since 2019.
