National demonstration disrupts public transport

The national demonstration is an organization of ACV, ABVV and ACLVB. The immediate reason for the event, which departs at 11 a.m. from Brussels North Station and ends at Brussels South, is the social conflict at Delhaize. The supermarket chain wants to privatize all its own stores, but the unions fear that this will result in poorer pay and working conditions for the thousands of employees in its own stores.

Social dumping

The unions talk about social dumping and want to prevent this model from spreading to other sectors. They also denounce the attacks on the right to strike during the conflict at Delhaize, such as the use of bailiffs and appeals to the police. In this way, according to the trade unions, the right to collective action is affected.

55% lay down work

The action will also lead to disruption for De Lijn’s services, since staff from the Flemish public transport company will participate in the action. Travelers who want to travel with De Lijn vehicles are advised to check whether their journey is carried out on the website or on the route planner of De Lijn. Rides that are not running are not shown.
