The Winter Olympics will take place next February. For the German national ski jumping coach, these will be the last for the time being.
Stefan Horngacher will end his time as national coach of the German ski jumpers next year. As the German Ski Association (DSV) announced to the SID news agency on Wednesday, the 56-year-old will quit after the 2025/26 Olympic season.
“It was always clear to me that the time would come at some point. After the Olympic Games is a very good time. I started my career as an athlete in Predazzo, that was my first World Cup. Now I can end my coaching career in Germany in Predazzo, that is a very well-rounded conclusion for me,” said Horngacher.
The Austrian took over the office in 2019 – as the successor to his compatriot Werner Schuster. During his tenure, the German team won gold at the 2021 home World Cup in Oberstdorf, among other things. A year earlier, Karl Geiger had won the individual title at the Ski Flying World Championships in Planica.
However, the team has so far been denied the hoped-for success at the Four Hills Tournament, even under Horngacher.
Before his involvement with DSV, the Black Forest native was head coach of the Polish national team. As an active jumper, he became world champion himself.
