The German ski jumpers are targeting the hoped-for team medal at the Nordic Ski World Cup on Thursday. Routine Pius Paschke will not be part of the team in the competition on the Großschanze of Trondheim.

As can be seen from the official start list of the FIS, Pius Paschke was canceled by national coach Stefan Horngacher for the team competition. The German quartet is therefore based on Andreas Wellinger, Philipp Raimund, Karl Geiger and Stephan Leyhe.

For Paschke, the decision should be a bitter disappointment. At the beginning of the season, the 34-year-old was the measure of things in the World Cup. From the gray mediocrity, the Bavarian had suddenly climbed into the top of the world. The German hopes also rested on him on the four -hill tour.

But in the course of winter, Paschke lost its shape more and more. In the overall tour ranking, he finished sixth. In the meantime, he usually has to struggle to reach the second round of the top 30 jumper.

In singles from the normal hill, Paschke had not been given a healthy manner.

Historical failure in ski jumping threatens

In the first training session on the big hill, he then only took place 24, 34 and 29. The national coach had not nominated him for the mixed team competition on Wednesday.

Wellinger and Raimund started from the men’s team. Together with Katharina Schmid and Selina Freitag, it was only enough for a disappointing fourth place.

In the men’s team competition, at least one position should go forward. Germany won gold with the team in 2019 and 2021, two years ago in Planica it was only fifth in the victory of the Slovenes.

If it is not enough for a surprise success on Thursday, the first World Cup without gold has been threatened. The competition on the large hill starts at 4:20 p.m.
