National coach Andries Jonker announces the first two dropouts for the Orange Lionesses World Cup | Dutch football

Romée Leuchter and Alieke Tuin see their World Cup dream go up in smoke. The duo was part of the provisional selection of the Orange Lionesses for the final tournament in Australia and New Zealand, but were sent home.

Jonker included thirty players in his pre-selection for the world championship that will be organized next month. After playing the Champions League final with VfL Wolfsburg, Jill Roord and Lynn Wilms will join the preparation for the World Cup next Friday. As a result, Jonker has told Leuchter and Tuin that they can pack their suitcases.

Leuchter was there last year during the European Championship in England. The 22-year-old attacker of Ajax was twice accurate at the time and this season was on track with seventeen goals in the Women’s Eredivisie. Leuchter seemed to be eligible for the place of the injured all-time top scorer Vivianne Miedema, but received bad news.

World Cup schedule
At the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this year, the Orange Lionesses will meet defending champion United States in the group stage, which the Netherlands will play in New Zealand. View here the complete schedule of the Women’s World Cup, which will take place from 20 July to 20 August.

The 22-year-old Tuin, who plays at Fortuna Sittard, will not travel to New Zealand either. Her departure is less of a surprise. Tuin was one of the most striking names in the pre-selection and has not yet played a match in the shirt of the Orange Lionesses.

Dominique Janssen and Lineth Beerensteyn will join later in Zeist, where the Lionesses are preparing for the World Cup. Five players now have to drop out. Jonker may take 23 players on the plane. The first World Cup match is scheduled for July 23, when the Orange will face Portugal in the group stage.
