The suffering of national basketball coach Àlex Mumbrú apparently continues. As the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reports, Mumbrú is still in hospital. And that almost four weeks after winning the European title.
Accordingly, the Spaniard needs to be fed and hydrated intravenously. Àlex Mumbrú is said to have lost 16 kilos in weight, but has at least started eating semi-solid food this week. He should be able to leave the clinic in about ten days, but further treatment is necessary. Mumbrú will probably have to have his gallbladder removed.
The Spaniard recently told “Bild” that he would have to “stay in the clinic for a total of three weeks” in order to be able to recover properly. Now the period has been extended even further. After winning the European Championship, Mumbrú traveled to his homeland to receive treatment.
The 46-year-old was plagued by pancreatitis during the tournament and assistant coach Alan Ibrahimagic took over for him on the sidelines. Because of his illness, the former national player also missed the reception of the European champions Frankfurt am Main.
