Napoli gambled away clear leadership

Italy’s football champions SSC Napoli are taking it a little easier after winning the title for a long time. The team of coach Luciano Spalletti, who had recently indicated his departure, only managed a 2-2 (2-0) win at FC Bologna despite a 2-0 lead. The courted top striker Victor Osimhen scored both goals (14th/54th) for the champion.

Lewis Ferguson (63′) and Lorenzo De Silvestri (84′) equalized for the home side, who are in secure midfield. Napoli had regained the Scudetto in Serie A after 33 years. It is the club’s third league title, the first since the era of Diego Armando Maradona. Napoli have only won two of their last six league games.

In the relegation battle, Hellas Verona missed the leap to safety. After the 1: 1 (0: 0) against FC Empoli, the northern Italians remain on the first relegation zone 18 due to the lost direct comparison against competitor Spezia Calcio. An own goal by Giangiacomo Magnani in the sixth minute of added time prevented the hosts from the important victory.
