The ban concerns motor vehicles and mopeds of a category lower than or equal to Euro 2 and diesel cars of a category lower than or equal to Euro 5, from Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 6.30pm. The objective is to respect European air quality parameters
Until March 31, 2026to facilitate the improvement of air quality, in the municipality of Naples Cars and commercial vehicles will not be able to circulate Euro 0 and Euro 1 and diesel vehicles up to Euro 5 from Monday to Friday, from 8.30 to 18.30: this is what is provided by an ordinance of 24 November 2025 implementing the regional Air Quality Protection Plan and the European directives with which the Neapolitan municipal administration prohibits, in the same period, “the circulation throughout the entire city territory of exclusively diesel-powered cars and exclusively diesel-powered commercial vehicles of categories N1, N2 and N3 less than or equal to Euro 5 and of motor vehicles and mopeds of a category less than or equal to Euro 2”.

The city motorway network in the sections falling within the territory of the Municipality of Naples are not subject to these traffic limitations, i.e. the A1 Naples-Rome connection; The A3 Naples-Salerno connection; the regional road ex SS 162 and the Viale Fulco di Calabria junction. The ordinance provides for exemptions to circulation which include some categories of vehicles, including those for transporting disabled people, emergency vehicles, law enforcement agencies, public transport, taxis, vintage cars, healthcare and public utility vehicles. The launch of this ordinance and these measures, concludes the note from the Municipality, are “necessary to counteract the constant exceeding of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) limits and guarantee compliance with European standards on air quality”.
