NAC Breda started the new year on Saturday in Groningen with a draw against FC Groningen. After a mediocre match, the match ended 0-0 in a cold Euroborg.
Thanks to the draw, NAC hands over the last place to FC Volendam, which lost to AZ in Alkmaar on Saturday. NAC and Volendam both have 14 points, but the people of Breda have a better goal difference.
After the second draw in a row, Groningen drops to sixth place. The home team barely managed to create any chances against the defensive-minded NAC in the first half. The visitors, who started with newcomer André Ayew on the bench, did not pose much danger either.
Best chance for substitute Ayew
The second half offered more spectacle. After a good combination with Lewis Holtby, Cherrion Valerius squandered a great opportunity on behalf of NAC. Marvin Peersman then came close to making Groningen 1-0, while Thom van Bergen and Stije Resink were also threatening. NAC’s best chance was for substitute Ayew, but the 120-time Ghana international headed over.
