The final has caused a stir. Chess legend Magnus Carlsen’s coach Peter Heine Nielsen opened the message service in X.
During the match, a picture of the players’ rest room was shown, which made Nielsen open up.
– Give the players a break. Enjoy their chess moves, but don’t turn the World Cup match into reality TV, Nielsen wrote.
He continued to the Norwegian for NRKthat no one benefits from seeing Ding eating nuts or the players sleeping.
However, not everyone agrees with Nielsen. NRK’s chess commentator Torstein Bae says viewers are interested in knowing if the contestants are sitting in the break room with their eyes closed or what they’re eating.
According to him, the general public likes that they see the players in another way as well.
– We want to get closer to the players.
Bae doesn’t think the players are bothered by the filming.
– As long as they know about it. However, they are not photographed in the bathroom.
Earlier during the Games, a picture of Ding Liren relaxing on a chair in the break room started circulating on social media.
Liren is sitting on a chair. The picture eventually became a meme.
According to Nielsen, filming the break room causes unnecessary stress, and no normal person should be in a similar situation.
– The World Cup is a stressful event and I think it is only fair that the players have the opportunity to relax.
