The story of the Farnons and Herriots continues from the spring of 1940. James and Helen are thinking about starting a family and the vets have enough customers.

However, one of the standard characters is gone. Tristan, who has performed for three seasons Callum Woodhousehas been sent to serve his country in the war and will not be seen at all in the new season.

Playing James Nicholas Ralph has told for RadioTimes that his character misses his best friend very much. Woodhouse is also missed by his acting colleagues.
