Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari – that seems to fit quite well so far. The Formula 1 record world champion jokes his weight because of his love for Italian food.
The mostly discussed personnel in the upcoming Formula 1 season should undoubtedly be Lewis Hamilton. The Briton heralds a new era in red at Ferrari.
With the Scuderia, Hamilton wants to chase the dream of eighth world champion title. This would crown himself for the sole record champion.
The first days and weeks in Italy liked the 40-year-old. Hamilton traveled to Maranello for the first time in mid -January, where a lot of love hit him.
Hamilton loves Italian food
Not only the cars, but also the culinary delights to the F1 pilot. So much that he jokes about possible problems.
“Oh God. I’ve eaten so many pizzas in the past few weeks,” said Hamilton. “I ate three pizzas last week alone.” Despite his pizza love, he even lost weight, the Briton said.
But: “I have to be careful and can’t eat pizza all year round. Otherwise I won’t fit into the car,” he joked.
The Ferrari newcomer has an old connection to Italian cuisine – together with Nico Rosberg. In adolescence, they took part in Kart championships together.
Hamilton still reminiscent.

“I still know how to go to the city with Nico every evening to buy pizza and ice cream,” he recalls the time in the MBM team and the Open Italian Championship in 2000 and 2001.
“I remember that Luca del Fante, my first mechanic, and his mother always made me an incredible lasagna. I have not forgotten this lasagna until today.”
His absolute favorite meal? “Penne all’arrabbiata.”
Formula 1 test drives start in Bahrain on Wednesday (live at sport.de in the ticker) for the upcoming World Cup. On March 16, the first race of the season will take place in Australia.
