Music journalist Juhani “Jussi” Niemi has died

According to Meriläinen, Niemi died today, Friday, September 22, due to an illness. Niemi would have turned 73 next month.

Niemi had a long career as a journalist and writer. He was involved in the creation of Soundi magazine since its first publication, i.e. since 1975. In addition to Sound, Niemi was the editor of Aamulehti.

In addition to his career as a journalist, Niemi was an avid music enthusiast, which Meriläinen of Sound recalls with beautiful words.

– Jussi Nieme was driven to the end by an inexhaustible hunger to discover new music. Even at over 70 years old, Niemi was an exceptionally wide-ranging and passionate music writer. He went to gigs several times a week and turned all the stones to make new musical discoveries, Meriläinen describes.
