Much unclear about ex-internationals New Year’s match, women are complete

In just over a week (January 7), the traditional New Year’s Eve competition will return after two years of absence. It will be a special edition, because the first edition was played in 1923. Despite this, there is still a lot of uncertainty about which names will participate.

“The women’s team with ex-internationals is completely complete”, organizer Emiel Turlings begins positively. “Andries Jonker will sit on the bench with his entire staff to coach. The selection does have the allure of the big names, which we also want to get from the men.”

Such as Daphne Koster, Anouk Hoogendijk and Claudia van den Heiligenberg, who were there in 2020. Desiree van Lunteren makes her debut with the women’s team and Leonne Stentler, analyst at ESPN and NOS, has also committed.

‘No guarantee of names’

Turlings: “In the last editions, we only heard in January who will be participating in the men’s division. That is comparable to young people, who also buy a ticket at the last minute. but it remains a pity that we can never guarantee names.”

In recent years, Pierre van Hooijdonk, Simon Tahamata and Barry Opdam have often participated in the New Year’s competition.
