After leaving MSV Duisburg, Niko Bretschneider is drawn abroad for the first time. The 22-year-old joins Latvian first division club FK Auda from the capital Riga. The left-back has signed a contract until 2023 with an option for a further year. Bretschneider, who made 32 appearances for MSV last season, will be coached in Riga by Tomislav Stipic, who has already worked for Erzgebirge Aue in Germany.
“It hasn’t been an easy summer so far. It is well known that I would have liked to have continued at MSV. I will miss the fans and wish the club all the best,” Bretschneider said in an interview with Transfermarkt. “Auda has a great coach and sporting director. The club has a clear philosophy of focusing on young players. You convinced me with a clear plan and path for me. This was recently missing in Duisburg. It feels good to be really wanted. Abroad will take me further and as always I’ll give it my all. Riga is a great city for that.”
