In 2024, a malignant tumor was found by the Eisbären Berlin Eisbären Berlin. Now the ice hockey national player has died of the consequences of cancer.
The death of national player Tobias Eder falls into a state of shock. At the age of 26, the professional of the Eisbären Berlin died of the complications of cancer. “Unfortunately, Tobi has not won his hardest fight. It is impossible to find the right words now,” the polar bears wrote in their message.
At Eder, a malignant tumor was found in the summer of last year just a few weeks after he was participating in the Czech Republic during the sports medical examination of the capital club. The disease of the native of Tegernsee made it necessary to start therapy immediately.
The German Ice Hockey Association spoke of a “shocking message”. Eder had already succumbed to his serious illness a few days ago. “We remember the many fun, beautiful and special moments that we were able to experience with Tobi and say goodbye to our gratitude for the time together,” said the Deb.
Due to the “critically deteriorated state of health” by Eder, the planned league game of the polar bears had been moved to February 26 at ERC Ingolstadt. The team of the polar bears had not seen themselves able to play for Wednesday. On Friday, according to the schedule, the Berliners receive Düsseldorfer eG, one of Eder’s former clubs.
In the upcoming DEL games there will be a minute’s commemoration in memory of Eder, the German ice hockey league said. Eder had started his career at EC Bad Tölz. He went to the polar bears for the EHC Red Bull Munich and DEG. “Thanks for everything, Tobi. We will never forget you,” wrote the Munich. The Düsseldorfers were “speechless and in deep grief”.
For the German national team, the Bayer played 27 international matches according to the association. Last year, after the DEL title win with the polar bears, he was also part of the DEB World Cup squad. In the opening game, Eder scored a goal in 6: 4 against the Olympic third Slovakia. “April and May could have been able to run worse. That is something that I worked on all my life,” said Eder at the time.
The DEB selection later failed in the World Cup quarter-finals at Switzerland. Shortly afterwards, Eder’s cancer was discovered. In November, the polar bear professional thanks Instagram for the “incredible support” during his therapy. He appealed in the video: “Go to the provision, do it for yourself, do it for your loved ones, for your friends, for your family. Because at the end of the day there is nothing more valuable than health.”
Eisbear club owners Philip Anschutz, a US billionaire, had offered to bear the costs for the treatment of the goal scorer and also for possible therapy in the USA. “Dear Tobi, you will be missing. You have always conjured up a smile on the face. We will always remember you!” The DEL record champion now wrote.
Eder’s death arouses sad memories of Robert Müller. In 2009, the former ice hockey goalkeeper died of the consequences of a brain tumor at the age of only 28 years.
