Motorcycle insurance comparison: tips and tricks for the cheapest rate

Motorcycle insurance for enduro riders

“Type 2” drives a light Enduro, which he, like the chopper driver, only permits seasonally. His favorite models are the Suzuki V-Strom 250, the BMW G 310 GS and the KTM 690. In our comparison, “Type 2” drives a Honda CRF 250 L with 18.4 kW (25 hp) and a displacement of almost 250 ccm.

Just like the chopper driver, our 40-year-old enduro driver wants to register his Honda CRF 250 L with a seasonal license plate from March to September. During this period, he expects to drive almost 5,000 kilometers, he only uses his Honda CRF 250 L privately and exclusively by himself.

The result: With liability insurance with partial coverage (excess 150 euros), our enduro rider gets away with the basic protection from prokundo. For 25.44 euros per year, the coverage is a flat rate of 100 million euros (maximum coverage per injured person: 15 million euros), a Mallorca policy is included and the insurer also pays for damage caused by gross negligence, but not in the event of damage resulting from the consumption of alcoholic beverages or other intoxicating substances. Collisions with animals are only insured for furred game, horses, cattle, pigs and sheep. Damage caused by marten bites is not covered. This service should be included because motorcyclists often need to use it.

The insurance of the enduro rider from our test costs a little more DA direct* with the Comfort tariff. For 65.62 euros, our enduro rider receives liability insurance with partial coverage (also 150 euros deductible). As with prokundo, the flat-rate coverage is 100 million euros. This tariff also includes a Mallorca policy. However, the DA directly insures direct damage caused by animal bites up to 10,000 euros and collisions with animals of all kinds are also covered by the policy. In addition, special equipment is insured up to 20,000 euros. As a result, the DA direkt, which was also rated “good” by TÜV Saarland for its service quality and price-performance ratio, offers comprehensive protection for the enduro rider in our test. Also good for policyholders: You can individually add various protection components to your insurance with DA direct.

The achievements of Barmenia Direct* in the TopSchutz tariff are very comprehensive, and as an insured person you pay a little more here than with DA direct and prokundo: the insurance premium is EUR 101.57 per year. Animal damage of “all kinds” is protected with this motorcycle insurance, the sum insured is 100 million euros (maximum sum insured per injured person: 15 million euros). Special equipment is insured for up to 6,000 euros on your two-wheeler. Damage caused by animal bites, including consequential damage, is covered by BarmeniaDirekt up to an amount of EUR 5,000. Extended coverage for animal damage includes animals of all species.

WGV offers extensive insurance protection for our enduro riders for an annual fee of 40.81 euros: The coverage amount is 100 million euros flat rate (maximum coverage amount per injured person: 15 million euros), a Mallorca policy is included, the insurer also covers damages through gross negligence, the game damage cover applies to “animals of all kinds”, the elementary damage cover is extended and applies to storms, hail and lightning strikes as well as avalanches and mudflows, special equipment is also insured against theft up to an amount of 5,000 euros and WGV pays consequential damage of up to 10,000 euros in the event of an animal bite.

Our recommendation: For an annual contribution of 40.81 euros, “Type 2” is optimally secured in our comparison with WGV. In our opinion, the motorcycle insurance from WGV is a real price-performance winner. The tariff of DA direct* With its high sum insured for special equipment, it is well suited for expensive special models.
