Mother’s cerebral infarction inspires Machteld van der Werf for special song

A cerebral infarction changes life. From the patient, but also from the family and friends around them. Machteld van der Werf, director of the Atlas Theater in Emmen, experiences it up close. It happened to her mother a year and a half ago. Now Van der Werf has written and recorded a song especially for her, together with singer-songwriter Tim Akkerman.

“My mother is really a family person. She prefers to have all the grandchildren around her, the whole family together. She wants to go to the theater, go out for a nice meal. These are all things that sound very obvious, but for her it is not all that. so naturally more,” says Van der Werf.

She would like to do something for her mother, or actually for all people who have suffered a stroke. As a theater director she is known in the music world and she contacts Tim Akkerman. He was once the singer of the band Di-rect, but has been active solo for many years.
