Dozens of apartments on Buikslotermeerplein in Amsterdam North had no running water between Wednesday evening and late Friday morning. So it was not possible to flush the toilet, do the dishes, cook or shower.
The problem arose on Wednesday around 7 p.m. According to residents, maintenance work on the installation had taken place shortly before. This concerns rental properties. Residents contacted the property owner several times, but a solution took a long time.
Primitive
“It’s a bit primitive,” said one victim. “We go across the street with buckets to get some water so we can flush the toilet.”
Another had just showered with a local resident. “It’s not that we can’t get water from the tap for a while. We can’t go to the toilet either. It’s simply uninhabitable, actually.”
Around 11 a.m. this morning a specialized company came by. The solution turned out to be simpler than expected: after opening two shut-off knobs, everyone had water again.

In a response to AT5, the property owner says that he sent specialists immediately after the first report. It initially seemed that a power outage was the cause, but there turned out to be an ‘underlying problem’ that was resolved on Friday morning.
“We understand the impact such a situation can have on the comfort of our residents and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience they have experienced,” the property owner said. “We emphasize that we rely on professionals to detect and resolve reports. We remain committed to resolving complaints as quickly and efficiently as possible, and let us know that this is our top priority.”
