Mother and son from asylum seekers’ center shot with paintball gun

A mother and her son were shot at by someone with a paintball gun on Wednesday. The two live at the asylum seekers’ center in Budel and were on their bicycles. They were both hit by paintballs from the gun. This is reported by a community police officer who works at the asylum seekers’ center.

The mother and her son each cycled on their own bicycle on the Randweg-Oost in Budel. They were shot at from a car. “The family comes from a war zone and the shooting was very traumatic for them,” said the local police officer.

Minor bruises
They have filed a report and a police investigation has been launched. The two were hit but not seriously injured. “But anyone who has ever been hit by such a bullet knows that you can have serious bruises,” said the police.

There was a driver and a passenger in the car. It is probably a gold-colored Peugeot. Police are looking for the people in the car and are asking witnesses to come forward.

No additional security measures have been taken at the asylum seekers’ center since the incident.

Paintball as a sport
Paintball is actually meant as a sport, where you shoot each other with paintballs. There is considerable power behind the balls, especially from close range. A shot to the body can be painful. A shot to the head can even cause serious injuries.

For safety, extra protection is therefore worn, such as thick overalls, a helmet and face protection.
