Wiesbaden (dpa-AfX)-More organic vegetables from German cultivation: 19,350 hectares in Germany were managed in the past year, and five percent more than 2023, as the Federal Statistical Office reports. On this area, agricultural businesses received 529,800 tons of organic vegetables – an increase of 10.4 percent for the previous year.
In organic cultivation in Germany, beetroot, pumpkins, zucchini, peas and carrots dominate. According to the Wiesbaden statisticians, 15.3 percent of the total vegetable attachment in Germany are now managed ecologically, 12.7 percent of the total harvest is organic vegetables.
Second largest vegetable harvest since 2012
A total of 5,830 companies in Germany received 4.2 million tons of vegetables in Germany last year. That was an increase of 6.1 percent compared to 2023 and the second highest has been harvested in Germany with 4.3 million tons more vegetables in Germany.
According to the Federal Office, the acreage increased by 3.2 percent to 126,800 hectares. The largest outdoor areas for vegetable cultivation are available in North Rhine-Westphalia (28,200 hectares), Lower Saxony (24,400 hectares), Bavaria (16,500 hectares) and Rhineland-Palatinate (16,400 hectares). Carrots or carrots were in the field in Germany with 850,600 tons, as in previous years, the type of vegetable with the greatest harvest quantity.
