More and more companies are stopping and that is also visible in Drenthe, according to figures from the Chamber of Commerce (Chamber of Commerce). In the first quarter of this year, 1331 companies stopped in Drenthe. That is an increase of 39 percent compared to the first quarter of 2024. Only in Limburg and Utrecht is the increase compared to the previous year before.

If you look at the number of stopped entrepreneurs per 10,000 inhabitants, Drenthe, together with Groningen, is at the bottom of the national list. In both northern provinces, 26 companies stopped per 10,000 inhabitants. In Noord-Holland this relative number is highest with 43 stopped companies per 10,000 inhabitants.

It is especially many freelancers (self -employed without staff) who stopped as an entrepreneur. This has to do with, among other things, the stricter rules of the tax authorities concerning the law against false independence, so that companies deal differently with the use of self -employed people.

But according to the Chamber of Commerce there are more things that stop entrepreneurs, for example, companies in different sectors have to deal with high energy costs, uncertainty about new regulations and a permanent shortage of staff. According to the figures, no more companies have gone bankrupt nationally. For the first time in two and a half years, the number of bank pricing showed a decrease again.
