More home burglaries in Drenthe in the past six months

In the past six months, about sixteen percent more home burglaries have been committed in Drenthe than during this period in 2021 and 2022. This is apparent from figures from the police. Between October last year and March this year, there were 394 burglaries, compared to 340 the year before.

Only the provinces of Flevoland and Overijssel (+18 percent) experienced a greater increase than Drenthe. Nationally, there has been a slight increase in the number of home burglaries. The number of burglaries actually decreased in Zeeland and South Holland.

In Drenthe, most burglaries took place in the municipality of Emmen, but residents of De Wolden and Meppel were most likely to fall victim to a house break-in. Relatively speaking, burglars struck the least often in Assen.

Burglary is much more common during the dark months than during the summer. Normally, the thieves’ guild strikes most often in December, but last year the number of thefts in that month was relatively limited. This is probably due to the strict lockdown that was announced in mid-December. The number of burglaries also fell sharply during previous lockdowns.
